HELPFUL MATH WEBSITES:
All too often, students think that math is boring, and that what they do in the 7th grade has little relevance to what they will need later on in life.
Here are some websites that will hopefully change an opinion or two (these are not hyperlinked pages; you will have to copy and paste them into your browser):
http://www.mathplayground.com/ The opening page reads, "Welcome to Math Playground, an action-packed site for elementary and middle school students. Practice your math skills, play a logic game and have some fun!" This is a great website for a playful approach to reviewing and reinforcing basic math skills.
http://coolmath.com/ The opening page reads, "An amusement park of math and more... designed for fun!
Bored with math? Confused by math? Hate math? Yeah, Coolmath can fix that.
Totally dig math? Want to learn more math? Want to get ahead in math? Yep, Coolmath is here for that too!"
http://www.aaamath.com/ This website is specifically designed to provide review and practice on math skills from Kindergarten through the 8th grade. As such, it is a great website to help students who are behind get caught up with their foundational math skills.
http://www.wtamu.edu/academic/anns/mps/math/mathlab/beg_algebra/ West Texas A & M University created a virtual math lab that is designed to help students of various math achievement levels to improve their math skills. The Beginning Algebra page reviews many of the skills and concepts that we will be working on in Pre-Algebra; for example, the first part of this page includes tutorials on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing real numbers. While students will not necessarily use this page on a regular basis, it will show students how the work we are doing in the 7th grade connects with work students will do in Algebra, even if they have to take Algebra at the college level.
